Philippine sports again seeks China help for Olympics

Smarting from the Southeast Asian Games debacle, Philippine sports is looking to reigning Olympics and Asian Games champion China for much-needed assistance in future international stints.

Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia Wednesday unveiled the memorandum of understanding with his Chinese counterpart Liu Peng which will ensure an exchange of sports technology and resources between the two countries with the London Games next year as immediate target.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. was also present during the affair. The PSC and the Chinese Sports Ministry signed the MOU last August and will be implemented as soon as possible, according to Garcia.

Both Garcia and Cojuangco refused to give an assessment of what happened in the Indonesia SEA Games, which ended Tuesday with the country matching its poorest performance in the biennial meet of sixth place with 36 golds medals.

Liu assured the full support of his countryto raise the level of competitiveness of Filipino athletes.

“We have a long history together and we have strengthened our friendship in the last decades,” said Liu through a translator.
