PCCL: San Sebastian survives hot-shooting Adamson in overtime

MANILA, Philippines—San Sebastian, behind its Big Three, withstood Adamson in overtime, 85-83, Thursday in the knockout stages of the 2011 Philippine Collegiate Champions League.

Calvin Abueva, Ronald Pascual and Ian Sangalang combined for all but 14 points of the Stags’ total, but it nearly was not enough to extinguish the hot-shooting Falcons at the Arena in San Juan.

San Sebastian, inching closer to a final four berth, let a 72-65 lead slip in the last minute before Sangalang missed a game-winning layup at the buzzer and the game went to overtime.

Pascual, who led with 29 points and hauled down 16 rebounds, sank two free throws with 11 seconds left as the Stags held a slim advantage all the way in extra time to forge a close win.

Abueva banged in 24 points and 22 rebounds while Sangalang added 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The fagged-out Falcons, playing in both the PCCL and the PBA D-League, rallied relentlessly, though, behind marksmen Jerick Canada, Jan Colina and Roider Cabrera.

Canada, who finished with 21 points for Adamson, and Cabrera, who had 11, nailed back-to-back triples in the last eight seconds of regulation to forge overtime.

Adamson, which also failed to make the finals of the UAAP last season, missed the boat to the next round of the PCCL with the loss.
