Adamson booked a trip to the semifinals of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference but the Lady Falcons would most likely be without their star spiker Jema Galanza the rest of the way.
Galanza on Monday twisted her right ankle, a brutal injury that could also force her to miss the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament next year.
The 20-year-old hitter reportedly got hurt after attempting a block early in the third set of the Falcons’ straight-sets victory over the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
She was reportedly rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
In her post-game interview, Adamson coach Airess Padda told reporters Galanza “could be done for the season.”
“I was trying to replay in my head what happened, I didn’t even see her go down, I didn’t see if she tripped over her own feet or she tripped on somebody else’s but her ankle was completely separated,” Padda said in a report on sports.abs-cbn.com.
“So there’s definitely a bone, a major, a fracture, I think it’s broken,” she added.
Padda hopes Galanza will be healthy enough to play in her final UAAP season, but the American coach admits she is unsure if her prized player will recover in time considering the severity of her injury.
“I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I don’t know. God I hope [she can play], but an injury like that, I’m not sure.”
