SEA Games preparations: Ramirez says renovations up for sports facilities

The Philippine Sports Commission will rehabilitate its sports facilities to better serve the national athletes.

PSC Chair Butch Ramirez said Philsports Arena in Pasig City and Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila would undergo repairs as Filipino athletes gear up for the 2019 Philippine hosting of the Southeast Asian Games.

Also up for renovation are the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine, baseball field, bowling alley and Ninoy Aquino Stadium, which are all inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

“But nothing is final yet. It will all be decided by the (SEA Games) organizing committee,” said Ramirez, who introduced lawyer Sannah B. Frivaldo as the agency’s new executive director in Tuesday’s presser at RMSC.

Frivaldo, who replaced lawyer Carlo Abarquez, will be in charge of the day-to-day operations as well as the bidding and procurement processes of the sports-financing agency, including the upgrade of sports venues owned by the PSC.

“We’re also planning constructions in Baguio and looking at putting up a high-performance gym,” said Ramirez.

The PSC has a track oval inside the Teacher’s Camp in the City of Pines for athletics as well as a multipurpose gym for boxing and dormitories for athletes.
