The Commission on Higher Education has recognized the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) as the authority on amateur sports in the country.
CHED chair Patricia Licuanan told the Department of Education that sports organizations seeking to represent the Philippines in various international sports competitions should get an endorsement from the PSC.
“These powers belong to the PSC,” said Licuanan in her letter to DepEd assistant secretary Tony Umali.
The CHED has already turned down several endorsement requests from groups seeking to represent the country.
PSC chair Butch Ramirez expressed his appreciation on the CHED’s stand on the role of the government sports agency.
“When we put things in order, it is easier for us to work together,” said Ramirez.
