Pons lifts FEU over Adamson for PVL Finals berth
Bernadeth Pons returned to propel Far Eastern University past Adamson, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18, and into the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference Finals Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The fifth-year outside hitter racked up 15 points, 12 coming from attacks, two blocks, and a service ace to remind the Lady Tamaraws have been missing for the past four games.
“We won because of Pons,” said FEU coach George Pascua as FEU braces for National University in the best-of-three Finals starting on Wednesday.
Czarina Grace Carandang topped with 16 markers, 13 from kills and three blocks, while Toni Rose Basas had 10 in the victory.
The Lady Tamaraws broke loose from a close 15-14 affair in Set 4 as their superb attacking got the better of the Lady Falcons to finish off the job.
“I told my players that the fight will boil down on one’s desire to win. Their character and their heart will be tested here because when it comes to skill level, it’s all even,” added Pascua.
Christine Joy Soyud led Adamson with 16 points, all coming from hits, while Chiara May Permentilla added 10 in the losing effort.
