For Scottie Thompson, it’s time for the second part of his redemption tour against Baser Amer.
With the upcoming Finals clash between Ginebra and Meralco in the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup, the former Perpetual playmaker and the San Beda floor general also renew they rivalry.
“They [San Beda] were the ones in red then. Now, I’m the one in red so I wish to eliminate them again,” he said smiling.
Thompson was on the losing end thrice in the Final Four as his tough-as-nails Altas failed to knock off Amer’s Red Lions from 2012 to 2014.
He didn’t get his fourth crack at San Beda after Perpetual missed out on the playoffs in his senior year in NCAA Season 91.
But Thompson did get one back on Amer after his Gin Kings won the 2016 Governors’ Cup at the expense of the Bolts last season.
While they may be rivals on the court, Thompson could not help but be impressed with Amer’s improvement this year.
“Baser has been playing really good. They’re successful right now is because of the way he plays. It’s also a big boost for them when they added kuya Ranidel (de Ocampo) and Mike Tolomia, so they have more weapons this time compared to last year,” he said.
But the goal remains the same for Thompson as he hopes win his second championship at his friend’s expense.
“I’m thankful to be back in the Finals and we really want to win this one,” he said.
