Belo cares for Pacquiao

Cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo was one of the very few people allowed inside Manny Pacquiao’s locker room after his fight with Juan Manual Marquez last Nov. 13 and I think I can explain her presence.
In all likelihood, Dr. Belo was there to monitor and observe the procedures done on Manny’s cuts by Dr. Jeffrey Roth, also a cosmetic surgeon.
The American doctor closed up Manny’s bone-deep eyebrow laceration with 28 stitches that involved several layers of skin and flesh.
The multilayer stitching is supposed to strengthen the scar, although Dr. Roth himself said there is no guarantee that the cut won’t open again if hit with great force in the future.
Dr. Roth also sewed close a cut on Manny’s lip.

As far as Dr. Belo is concerned, her services may be needed when Manny returns to Manila, depending on how good a job Dr. Roth had done on Manny’s face. Aesthetically speaking, that is.
Despite Manny’s numerous fights over the years, there doesn’t seem to be much evidence of the battering he has received.
Should Dr. Belo be credited for this?
Perhaps it is not only Jinkee but also Manny who has been making frequent trips to the Belo clinic in Quezon City. Many have observed that Manny’s skin has become smooth and flawless since Dr. Vicki has become a close friend of the family.

Three of Mexico’s top boxing superstars are scheduled to make a special appearance during the staging of “Island Assault,” a fight featuring Brian ‘The Hawaiian Punch’ Viloria and Mexican knockout artist Giovanni Segura.
They are Marco Antonio Barrera and Julio Cesar Chavez senior and junior.
According to reports, the trio is covering the event for a Mexican TV station.

Brian (29-3-0-16KOs) is defending his WBO flyweight crown for the first time against Segura, currently No. 9 in the world’s pound for pound hierarchy with a record of 28-1-1 and 24 knockouts.
“Segura is a very dangerous opponent for me but if I beat him, I get to keep my title and grab his slot in Ring’s (Magazine) pound for pound ranking,” Brian said.
If this happens, the Philippines will have three boxers in the top 9 of the pound for pound list, with Pacquiao still on top, and Nonito Donaire in 4th.
“Island Assault” is said to be a strong candidate for “Fight of the Year “ honors, with Viloria and Segura expected to “get out there and brawl.”

Surprisingly, embattled athletics chief Go Teng Kok was not as severely traumatized as I expected despite his athletes’ 2-gold production in the just-concluded 26th Southeast Asian Games.
The last time I talked to GTK, weeks before the event, he predicted 6 golds for athletics. And I thought he was being conservative.
GTK said he had lowered that forecast to three golds after his athletes were deprived of a training venue.
“They want me to fail and they succeeded.”
“They” is of course POC president Peping Cojuangco and PSC Chair Richie Garcia who, incidentally, must have heaved a huge sigh of relief when Malacañang congratulated and praised the athletes, despite the country’s dismal 6th place overall performance.
“I’m still on track with my foresight,” GTK said. “Didn’t I predict that we would win from 35 to 45 golds in this SEAG? Didn’t I say that we’d end up 6th?”
GTK said he had four secret weapons in his young, practically inexperienced athletes from which he was hoping to strike some gold nuggets.
