Title run just perfect for NU

National University completed a perfect run all the way to the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference championship Saturday night.

The Lady Bulldogs, powered by do-it-all star Jaja Santiago, dumped the Far Eastern University, 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16, to capture the title via a historic nine-game sweep at FilOil Flying V Centre.

With Santiago enjoying top-notch support in Risa Sato, Jorelle Singh, Aiko Urdas and Jasmine Nabor, NU made it back-to-back in the league’s college edition in a mighty show of force for the coming season.

“It was great feeling, we were able to sweep all our matches,” said Santiago in Filipino. “Maybe we have already achieved the maturity that we need to achieve and we didn’t become overconfident.”

The Lady Tamaraws missed their team captain Bernadeth Pons—who was on a beach volleyball duty—in the best-of-three finals series.

As expected, Santiago ran away with the Most Valuable Player Award for her third straight MVP honor in the league.

Earlier, Marck Espejo steered Ateneo to a sweep of Far Eastern University for the men’s title.

Espejo fired 20 points for the Blue Eagles, who fashioned out a 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 triumph in Game 2 of their best-of-three title series.
