Don’t tell Greg Slaughter that he had a bad game because all that matters for him is the victory.

Despite shooting 1-of-6 from the field to finish with only three points in Game 2, the Cebuano giant had no regrets over his performance in Ginebra’s 86-76 win over Meralco on Sunday.

“It was just how the game went tonight, but I was still able to contribute on the defensive end,” said Slaughter, who also hauled down six rebounds and three blocks in his 33 minutes of action. “It’s not about any numbers, it’s just about getting the win for the team.”

Slaughter knew that after his stellar play in Game 1 in Lucena, it was expected that the Bolts would be putting more attention on him, but he is more than willing to be the decoy and let his teammates pick up the slack.

“When you’re on the court, no matter what the stats are, you just got to find a way to make a contribution to the team,” said Slaughter.

The 6-foot-11 center, who received the  Best Player of the Conference award prior to the game, hopes that his succesful comeback from a devastating injury can serve as inspiration to others.

“I just hope it’s inspiring to people who got major injuries like that. When I first got that injury, it was kind of disappointing for me because it’s my first game back. It took a long time and I was separated from the team for a while, but I hope it just shows that you can always come back stronger from a setback,” he said.

But Slaughter is not content with just bagging the BPC plum as he looks forward on winning his first PBA title with the Gin Kings holding a 2-0 lead in the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.

“Individual award or not, we want to win the championship. That’s just been our goal since the beginning of the conference. We’re up 2-0 so we’ll look to get one more on Wednesday,” he said.
