The Philippines failed to mount a rally Friday as Malaysia cruised to a wire-to-wire victory in the 34th Asean Senior Amateur Golf Championships at Eagle Golf and Country Club in Cavite.
With top gun Idris Ngah at the firing end again, the Malaysians closed out with a 230 and a 702 total at Aoki course to dethrone the Filipinos, who could only tally a 233 for a 708 in the Stroke Play Team Gross event.
Ngah matched par 72, Dato Dzaamoddin Salleh tallied a 75, while Datuk A.S. Khamis carded an 83 for the Malaysians.
Rodel Mangulabnan scored 76 for the Philippines, with Eddy Jose Manzanares, a non-factor in the first two days, contributing a 77 and Edgar Quiao adding an 80 at the close of the 54-hole event staged by the Federation of Philippine Amateur Senior Golfers, Inc. —ROY LUARCA
