Asia’s first Grandmaster Eugene Torre and 13-time national champion Rogelio “Joey” Antonio will represent the Philippines in the 2017 World Seniors Chess Championships set in Acqui Terme, Italy, next month.

Torre is entered in the 65 and over division, while Antonio will be competing in the 55 and over category.

Torre, who recently posted a nine-game sweep of the Asian Seniors Chess Championship in New Zealand, is expected to finish strongly in his age bracket.

He will leave the country on Nov. 4 to have ample rest for the annual event.

Antonio, on the other hand, is coming off a share of fourth to eighth places in the recent Piaya Network international tournament in Bacolod.
