PH lifter Perez bags 3 golds in Asian Weightlifting Championships
Lifter Elien Rose Perez captured three gold medals in the 2017 Asian Senior Cup Weightlifting Championships in Yanggu, South Korea.
The prized find from Tagbilaran City, Bohol topped the women’s 53kg division after carrying 71 kilograms in the snatch and 87kg in the clean and jerk for a total output of 158.
Article continues after this advertisementPerez, a criminology student at University of Bohol, defeated Nepal’s Sanju Chaudhary, who pulled up 61kg in the snatch and 77kg in the clean and jerk to compile 138kg for the silver medal.
A protege of Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, Perez also brought home three silvers in the Asian Inter-Club meet of the same tournament.
Park Da Ae of Korea ruled their division in the inter-club by lifting 75kg in the snatch and 96kg in the clean and jerk.
Article continues after this advertisementMaria Dessa Delos Santos and Elreen Ann Ando likewise made the country proud by pocketing three silvers and three bronzes each in their respective weight categories.
The 18-year-old Delos Santos, who also hails from Diaz’s hometown of Zamboanga City, snared the three silvers in women’s 58kg category of the Asian Inter-Club with a combined lift of 177kg (81kg in the snatch and 96kg in clean and jerk).
Nabieva Muattar of Uzbekistan ruled their division with a total effort of 197kg while Yu Won Ju of Korea placed third with 169kg. Delos Santos earned the bronzes in the Asian Cup.
Ando settled for three silver medals after putting together 198kg in the women’s 63kg of the Asian Inter-Club.
The Cebuana, who placed fifth in the recent Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan carried 85kg in the snatch and 113kg in the clean and jerk.
Ando got three bronzes in the Asian Cup won by Fayzullaeva Kumushkhon of Uzbekistan following a combined effort of 201kg.
