The Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) will get a much-needed facelift as a possible competition venue for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Philippine Sports Commission Chair Butch Ramirez said facilities inside the 10-hectare complex in Manila may house some events in the country’s hosting of the biennial meet.
Apart from the RMSC, Ramirez said training and competition venues at Philsports Complex in Pasig would also be rehabilitated, including the dining halls.
“Renovating them is necessary to make the facilities look fresh and new,” said Ramirez.
According to PSC executive director and lawyer Sannah Frivaldo, the renovation of the 83-year-old RMSC could reach P2 billion without refurbishing the Rizal Coliseum and the baseball stadium, which the National Historical and Cultural Commission declared as “untouchable.”
Based on the master plan, two athlete dormitories will be rehabilitated aside from the construction of new mess halls.
Construction will start before the year ends.
Ramirez also announced that the Philippine National Games supposed to be held in Cebu in December has been moved to next year.
