Aguinaldo virtual Fil-Am champ; Forest Hills pads lead
BAGUIO CITY—Camp Aguinaldo virtually clinched the Seniors Flight A championship of the Am division Tuesday even as Forest Hills opened a 12-point lead in the Fil bracket of the 62nd Fil-Am Golf Invitational tournament.
Playing at the Baguio Country Club, the Quezon-City based golfers scored 90 points and pulled away beyond recall with a 35-point lead over Baguio City Golf Team, which managed just 76 points for the day.
Aguinaldo posted a three-round total of 247 with Fernando Reyla scoring 25 points, Ben Liclican contributing 23 and Domingo Manuel and Bonifacio de Castro adding 21 each.
Article continues after this advertisementThird in the flight was Baguio Country Club with 229 points, followed by Cordillera Early Birds (221), Vallejo Team (210), Travellers Golf Club (206), Fil Am Golf of Florida (203) and Guam Seniors (184).
Liclican also forged a tie with Vallejo Team’s Rey Balenbin in the individual race with 76 points.
Forest Hills, playing at Camp John Hay, posted a total of 273 to pace Flight A in the Fil division after amassing 95 points on the strength of a 30 by Armando Buenaventura.

Mamala Bay, composed of former United States servicemen, had the highest score in the flight with 104 points and moved up to fourth with 253, followed by Guam Seals, BCC, Paradise Greens and LNP Foundation.
Meanwhile, two holes-in-one were registered yesterday at Camp John Hay in the event also supported by Fashion Rack, Air21, Rizgolf, Supreme Bike, GPS Tracker, Golforce, San Miguel, Le Chef, Camp John Hay Development Corp., Beaufort and Bayan Business.
Teddy Quizon of Team Stallion scored the first ace using a 5-wood on the 180-yard No. 4. He won a GPS Tracker in the tournament backed by Pacsports, Illy, Empire and Wilson.
Scoring the second ace was Earle Farrell of the Summer Capital, who pulled off the rare feat on the 143-yard par-3 No. 12 with a 9-iron. He won a 42-inch LCD TV. With a report from Frank Cimatu, Inquirer Northern Luzon.
