The efforts of the Philippine Sports Commission on grassroots sports development has gained interest from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
Philippine Sports Institute national training director Marc Edward Velasco said the PSC would conduct a three-day youth and sports workshop on sustainable development goals starting Wednesday at Philsports Arena in collaboration with Unesco.
“Unesco has recognized the Philippines as the first country to implement the Kazan Action Plan, which uses sports as a tool for peace and development,” said Velasco.
Unesco first noticed the PSC Children’s Games for Peace held in Davao City at the onset of the Marawi war five months ago.
While the military engaged the terrorist Maute Group in a five-month armed conflict, the PSC organized a three-day activity of pure fun and sports for Muslim, Catholic and Lumad children 12 years old and younger.
