Philippine Superliga’s one-year ban and P50,000 fine on Iriga open spiker Grethcel Soltones stands.
After convening in an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the PSL team owners unanimously denied the appeal of team owner and Iriga mayor Madeline Alfelor to downgrade the penalty for former San Sebastian standout, who apparently violated the tournament’s One League Policy.
The league voted 7-0 and unanimously upheld its decision.
Under league rules, Soltones should have been under contract with Iriga for a year as teams are required to sign all their players to a minimum of one-year contract with an exclusivity deal due to the One League Policy. Players under contract could not suit up in any games or tournament outside of the PSL until after their deal is done.
Much to the team owners’ dismay, Iriga has no contract with Soltones despite her suiting up for the Lady Oragons’ season opener against Sta. Lucia in the ongoing 2017 PSL Grand Prix.
Iriga and guest team Victoria Sports- University of Santo Tomas could not vote during the deliberations.
