PSC Children’s Games draw praise from Unesco official

Learn from the Philippines.

Unesco official Irakli Khodeli gave this piece of advice to neighboring countries in the Southeast Asian region during Wednesday’s sports and youth funshop on sustainable development goals hosted by the Philippine Sports Commission.

Khodeli, head of the social and human sciences unit at Unesco’s Indonesia office in Jakarta, was referring to the PSC’s Children’s Games, which uses sports as an instrument for peace and as a tool to prevent terrorism in the country.

PSC chair Butch Ramirez has been focusing on the Children’s Games as part of the agency’s grassroots program.

“Chairman Ramirez is promoting sports to counter extremists and violence and to promote positive things,” said Khodeli in the workshop attended by Asean delegates at Philsports multipurpose arena in Pasig City.

“For us, that’s remarkable and we want to make other countries in the region pay attention and learn from the Philippines,” he added.
