Lady Bulldogs get another elims sweep in UAAP women’s hoops

National U completed another immaculate eliminations run in the UAAP Season 80 women’s basketball tournament after mauling University of the East, 63-50, Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

This is the fourth straight year that the defending champions have swept the elimination round, as the Lady Bulldogs have been undefeated since 2014.

Ria Nabalan had 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who grabbed an outright seat to the finals, while enjoying ample support from her teammates in terms of scoring.

Trixie Antiquiera and Je Anne Camelo added 11 points apiece for NU while Janet Sison pitched in 10 points of her own.

Ruthlaine Tacula had 14 points to lead the 11-3 Lady Warriors, who will enter the step-ladder semifinals with a twice-to-beat advantage as the league’s no.2 team.

In the other game, which was played at Smart Araneta Coliseum, Far Eastern University dropped Ateneo 69-60.

The fourth-seeded Lady Tamaraws ended their elimination round campaign on a three-game winning streak and finished with an 8-6 card.

Isabel Balleser had 16 points to lead FEU while Precious Arellado added 11 points.

De La Salle (3-11) finished its season as the no.7 team after surviving University of the Philippines 75-72.
