The country’s young muay fighters are beginning to make a name for themselves on the global stage after pocketing six gold medals in the recent 1st World Youth Martial Arts Masterships in Jincheon County, South Korea.
Ghenyan Berdon ruled the girls’ 15-16 48 kg division and Bryan Siglos survived the field undefeated in the boys’ 16-17 63.5 kg.
Also prevailing were Islay Erika Bomogao (girls’ 16-17 45 kg) and Lian Benito (girls’ 16-17 48 kg).
“It was a very tough tournament but they still managed to deliver for the country,” said Muay Association of the Philippines’ Pearl Managuelod.
Also bagging golds among the nine Filipino fighters aged 14 to 17 were Mariah Trenyce Co (girls’ 14-15 48kg) and Rudzma Abubakar (girls’ 16-17 48kg).
Kristian Narca got a silver in the boys’ 16-17 48kg while Felix Cantores (boys’ 16-17 60kg) and Rosemarie Recto (girls’ 16-17 48kg) secured bronze medals.
