If there’s one thing that defined Lyceum’s 18-0 crusade in the NCAA Season 93 men’s basketball tournament, it would be the partnership that head coach Topex Robinson formed with CJ Perez.
The two are practically synonymous with the Pirates and Robinson knows his relationship with Perez will go beyond basketball.
“I cannot thank him more, I’ve always said that CJ will win games for us and he’ll definitely lose games for us,” said Robinson after losing to San Beda in the title round Thursday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“We have this relationship that, I guess, will go beyond the NCAA. I’m sure it’s more than that and I’m really proud of him.”
Robinson started with Lyceum in Season 91 but in the two years before Perez joined him, the Pirates won a total of 10 games while losing 26.
It seemed Perez was the missing link in Robinson’s quest to turn the Pirates’ ship around with the forward averaging 19.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 steals as Lyceum stayed perfect in the eliminations.
“I love CJ but that doesn’t mean I like him all the time, we’re going to have arguments, discussions, but at the end of the day we will lead,” said Robinson.
“I thank him for considering Lyceum to be his option, where he has so many options to play, he chose LPU.”
