John Bryan Otico and Marian Jade Capadocia took centerstage on Sunday after ruling the Philippine Columbian Association Open tennis.
The 18-year-old Otico, a product of the Philippine Tennis Academy, stood his ground against veteran Patrick John Tierro to prevail, 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, in the men’s final.
“I played like I have nothing to lose and just played my best tennis,” said Otico after taking his first PCA crown.
Earlier, Capadocia seized the women’s tiara at the expense of back-to-back titlist Clarice Patrimonio, 6-3, 6-4.
Otico ran away with the top purse of P100,000 while Capadocia bagged P50,000.
