Generika-Ayala schools UST

Generika-Ayala trounced Victoria Sports-UST, 25-16, 25-19, 25-23, Tuesday night for its third win in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at Filoil Flying V Centre.

Import Katarina Pilepec banged in 22 points for the Lifesavers, who are in the middle of the road at 3-4.

Chloe Cortez found herself in a bittersweet moment as the former Tigress delivered the killer blows against UST, which is still winless in five matches.

“It was exciting to see my former teammates on the opposite side of the court,” said Cortez. “I’d like to see how they have improved from when I was still playing for the school.”

The Tigresses are looking to sharpen their form for the coming UAAP season, hoping to duplicate their Final Four finish last time around.

The Lifesavers gamely gave them a much-needed schooling, out-attacking the Tigresses, 40-30. They also stymied their offense with six blocks—two of them coming from Cortez.

Cortez scored nine points for the Lifesavers as she took most of the playing time from import Darlene Ramdin. Ramdin finished with six points.

But the Tigresses managed to put up a decent fight, especially in the last set when veteran Dimdim Pacres, who finished with 10 markers, kept UST in the match.
