Patrimonio, Capadocia set semis showdown

MANILA, Philippines—Anna Clarice Patrimonio and Marian Jade Capadocia overcame their respective foes yesterday to arrange a semifinal showdown in the rain-hit Phinma International Junior tennis championships week 2 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Patrimonio, the top-ranked local here, ousted seventh pick Warissara Prajoubphansri of Thailand, 6-3, 6-1.

Capadocia outlasted last week’s finalist and fifth seed Miki Kobayashi of Japan, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, in the only other quarterfinal match in girls’ singles that was completed before the rains washed out the schedule.

Chiu Yu-hsiang of Chinese Taipei, the boys’ singles top seed, barged into the semifinals after a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win over Gong Pengxiang of China.

Chiu will take on third seed Thai Teeradon Tortrakul, who booted out Filipino Leander Lazaro, 6-4, 3-6, 2-1 (retired).
