Hidilyn Diaz wins bronze, silver in weightlifting worlds
Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz took home two medals in the 2017 International Weightlifting Federation World Championships in Anaheim, California on Thursday.
Diaz, who ended the Philippines’ two-decade medal drought in Rio last year, salvaged the bronze in the 53kg event with a total lift of 199 kg after bouncing back in the clean and jerk.
Article continues after this advertisementShe was only good for sixth place in the snatch with an 86 kg lift, but turned things around in the clean and jerk with 113 kg lift for the silver medal.
The Zamboanga native is eyeing her four-straight Olympics stint in Tokyo in 2020.
Thailand’s Sophia Tanasan won the gold with a total lift of 210kg.
