Coach Aldin Ayo did not address the rumors of his alleged transfer from La Salle to University of Santo Tomas, saying that his focus was solely on the Green Archers through the course of the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament.
“I don’t want to comment on that,” he said moments after Ateneo dethroned La Salle from the UAAP throne in a thrilling 88-86 Game 3 affair on Sunday.
Ayo has been rumored by other outlets (not in the INQUIRER) as a possible candidate for the Growling Tigers’ head coaching job after a dismal run under coach Boy Sablan.
Though the Sorsogon native mentor does have connection with some UST alumni, with links with fellow Dominicans, he said that those have nothing to do with his job.
“Actually, I have lots of friends in UST. The priest that took me to Manila is in UST. My thesis adviser is a Dominican and he’s also in UST. There are lots of priests, friends, and alumni that are in UST,” he said.
Ayo clarified that his mind through this year was occupied solely with La Salle’s run and nothing more.
“All I’m thinking is the game and this team. But regarding on the issue, I don’t want to comment on that,” he said.
