Phoenix head coach Louie Alas is convinced rookie Jason Perkins is a perfect fit for the Fuel Masters.
Perkins was the fourth overall pick in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft and as early as the preseason, Alas is impressed with the former La Salle standout.
“I really feel that we picked the right guy,” he said. “He’s playing like he’s not a rookie and he really has a PBA body.”
The 25-year-old Perkins is listed at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds. During his time in the UAAP, he was a handful on the low block with his ability to post up and hit the outside shot.
Perkins showed it on Tuesday against Alaska where he finished with nine points and two rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.
Alas feels Perkins still has a lot of room for improvement.
“The thing he needs to do is to bring his energy level up because with my system, we play high-energy on defense and if he is playing major minutes, he needs to have extra energy.”
Perkins is not the only addition to Phoenix in the offseason.
The Fuel Masters also landed LA Revilla and Justine Chua, whom Alas said would play a big role right away.
“Revilla is a big help to the team and also Perkins and Justine Chua. They’re really a major part of our rotation.
