For those following the social media activities of Ateneo during the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament, there was a hashtag that certainly piqued the curiosity of some.
That hasthag was “#BEBOB” with the entire the Blue Eagles roster blowing it up across social media as they prepped up for De La Salle in the Finals.
And on Saturday skipper Vince Tolentino finally shared what “#BEBOB” really meant.
“It started in our first Baler camp, coach Tab (Baldwin) came up with the hashtag that meant ‘Blue Eagles Band of Brothers,’” said Tolentino during the team’s media session before the ceremonial bonfire at Ateneo’s grounds.
“It started in Baler because that’s where we first began everything.”
Tolentino said the “#BEBOB” became their rallying cry throughout their 13-1 eliminations in Season 80, and all the way to their Game 3 Finals victory over De La Salle to win the crown.
The outgoing captain added their two straight losses to the Green Archers and Far Eastern University, in the elimination round and Final Four, respectively proved to be the turning point of their season and they immediately turned to their mantra so set their sail back in the right direction.
“We were tested throughout the whole season but staying with #BEBOB we didn’t break,” said Tolentino. “No one else can break this group of guys, our little team. #BEBOB was their to remind us we have each other and the whole Ateneo community is behind us.”
