Foton grabs bronze medal in PSL Grand Prix
Foton settled for the bronze medal after shutting out Cocolife, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Tornadoes banked on the all-around effort of Jaja Santiago, who scattered 10 kills, four blocks and three service aces.
But it wasn’t all Santiago as Foton also drew double-digit scoring from imports Sara Klisura, Dragana Perunicic and Katarina Vukomanovic.
Klisura scored 13 points, fellow Serbian Vukomanovic had 12 excellent digs while Montenegrin Dragana added 11 points with a pair of blocks and aces.
“It (game) was very difficult [for us] after that loss over Petron,” said Foton head coach Moro Branislav, pertaining to his team’s loss to rival Petron in the semifinals on Saturday.
“It’s okay. [We still] finished in the podium,” the Serbian coach said of the Tornadoes’ campaign.
Foton put its foot down in the second set and went on an 11-1 run for a 21-12 lead after trailing by one. That blast doused any fight Cocolife has.
