The NBA has produced plenty of amazing duos over the years, with the likes of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone and John Stockton, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson, just to name a few.
But perhaps no one epitomizes the “one-two punch” tag better than former Los Angeles Lakers teammates Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, who dominated the league in the early 2000s en route to three consecutive NBA titles.
Now retired from the game and serving as an analyst for TNT, Shaq recently took to Instagram to challenge his 6 million followers to name a better basketball duo than him and the “Black Mamba.”
“The question was asked: Name a duo that could beat Shaq and Kobe in a two on two matchup. Well, I’m waiting. Don’t hold back. Players have to be on the same team,” the Hall of Famer center wrote.
His post also comes with perhaps the duo’s most convincing highlight together, a crucial alley-oop play against the Portland Trailblazers in the 2000 NBA Western Conference Finals.
The epic play sealed the victory for the Lakers, after being down as much as 15 points in the fourth quarter of the deciding Game 7.
As of writing, Shaq’s post has garnered almost a million likes and racked up over 14,000 reactions from nostalgic fans. /ra
