Believing that the country’ first Olympic gold medal will likely come from the ring, Sen. Manny Pacquiao and the Philippine Sports Commission are jointly launching the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup on Saturday at Robinsons Place in General Santos City.
Pacquiao, the sport’s only eight-division world champion who turns 39 on Sunday, will grace the inaugurals of the nationwide grassroots program with PSC Chair Butch Ramirez.
In a recent press conference in Manila, Pacquiao expressed hopes that a boxer will become the first Filipino Olympic champion in the 2024 Paris Olympics, if not in the 2020 Tokyo edition.
Qualifying rounds will be held from Dec. 16 to April 7, 2018 in different venues while the preliminaries are slated April 14 and 15 in Mandaluyong. The quarterfinals will be on April 21 and 22.
