Petron, F2 duel one last time

The Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix best-of-three championship has come to a head and the coaches of Petron and F2 Logistics said it all boils down to which team wants it more.

For Petron, it’s the desire to win a fourth PSL title and be among the league’s super teams.

Petron’s coach Shaq delos Santos said they learned a painful lesson in Thursday’s Game 2, where they thew away a 2-1 set lead and a 9-0 edge in the fourth frame.

“We absorbed those lessons and we’ll get better in Game 3,” Delos Santos said of the winner-take-all match set 4 p.m. on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Blaze Spikers, who underwent a massive rebuilding, would also be eyeing a second straight conference title after beating the Cargo Movers for the All-Filipino Conference crown.

But with the way they clawed from a sure defeat in Game 2, F2 Logistics likewise showed how important the championship is to them.

“We kept it close and waited until we got the breaks,” said F2 coach Ramil de Jesus.

Breaks, or how either of the clubs respond to them, will spell the difference.

It is the first Grand Prix finals appearance for the Cargo Movers, who last tasted a championship more than a year ago when they won the 2016 AFC crown.

Petron import Hillary Hurley will be nursing a hurting ankle sustained during Game 2’s second set.
