Wayne Rooney is halfway through serving 100 hours of unpaid work after being caught driving three times above the speed limit in September, reports BBC.

Apart from community service, The Everton F.C. striker’s penalty includes a driving ban for two weeks.

He is performing unpaid work at a garden center for adults with learning difficulties.

Rooney said of the experience, “Honestly, I’m really enjoying it, working with these people, and I think it’s a place now where I’ll certainly keep in touch with when obviously my hours are over.”

He said the staff made him “feel really welcome.”

“We actually don’t even talk about football in there. It’s a refreshing place to go and it’s relaxing,” he shared.

On Sept. 1, the former Manchester United captain was caught drinking and driving in Cheshire when police stopped him after noticing a rear light wasn’t on.

His roadside breath test at a police station showed that he had 104 micrograms per 100 milliliters of breath. In England and Wales, the legal limit is 35 micrograms.

He was driving 29-year-old Laura Simpson’s car after they left a bar together. The two had left in a taxi and Rooney then drove Simpson’s VW Beetle after.

Simpson said Rooney’s wife, Coleen, confronted her over the phone about the incident.

“She seemed unhappy with the fact that we had left a nightclub in a cab together to go to my car. She did say both of us were at fault for getting in the taxi and that we shouldn’t have done that,” she told The Sun on Sunday.  Niña V. Guno /ra
