Teng to use excitement as motivation in rookie year

Whenever someone embarks on his first day on the job, unwarranted jitters usually overwhelm that individual and Jeron Teng is no exception.

Teng debuted for Alaska Wednesday in the PBA Philippine Cup and went of on a blistering start scoring eight points in the opening period against Magnolia.

But his output went on a gradual decline in the following quarters as the Aces lost to the Hotshots 108-95 at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Teng admitted he was too ecstatic to play in his first PBA game, but he will use that same excitement as motivation to play better in future outings.

“I’m super excited because this is a dream come true for me,” said Teng in Filipino after finishing with 16 points and two rebounds. “Ever since I started playing basketball entering the PBA like my father has been my dream.”

“I was really excited going to this game and I think I will use this as motivation and it’s a positive thing for me.”

With all that excitement surrounding him, Teng added he needs to fully grasp Alaska’s system and that he’s still adjusting to the professional game.

“It’s a learning process for me, I’m still getting to know the system of Alaska, they’ve been together for so many years now,” said Teng, who played 25 minutes.

“This is really different from the D-League or college, this is the professional level, and the best guys are here. It’s a big adjustment for me and as a player I’ll try to improve on what I can improve on.”
