The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has decided to hand the probe of alleged misused karatedo funds to the National Bureau of Investigation.
This was confirmed Friday by PSC Chair Butch Ramirez, who said the NBI is more qualified to ferret out the truth.
“They are more adept at investigating and after all, it’s not the athletes but the officials who are being alleged,” said Ramirez.
The probe stemmed from the complaint of several national team members who claimed they have not received the full amount of their training camp allowance worth $1,800 each.
Jason Ramil Macaalay, silver medalist in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia, and team captain Engene Dahohoy wrote the PSC, complaining that they got only 400 euros each or roughly $480.
The 14-man national team underwent a training camp in Germany last July 30 to Aug. 9.
