PH seeks revenge against powered-up SEA squad

Team Philippines intends to get even with Team Southeast Asia in the second edition of the Pradera Verde Ladies Challenge slated Jan. 15 to 17, 2018 at Pradera Golf Club in Lubao, Pampanga.

It’s going to be a tough task for the Filipinos, however, as the Southeast Asians, who conquered them, 19.5-10.5, in last year’s inaugurals have further bolstered their roster with the inclusion of Singaporean Shannon Tan.

Completing Team Southeast Asia in the Ryder Cup-format event are standouts from Philippine regional rivals Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Thais coming over are Kultihda Praphun, Phannarai Meesomus, Pimkwan Chookaew, Pinkaew Trachentong, and returning Onkanok Soisowan.

They will be joined by Malasysians Winnie Ng, Ashlay Lau, Audrey Tan and Zulaikan Nurzian and Indonesian Michela Tjan, also a member of last year’s victorious squad.

Team Philippines, raring to exact revenge in four-ball, foursomes and singles competitions, is composed of former World Junior Girls champion Yuka Saso, former national titlist Harmie Constantino and The Country Club mainstays Mikha Fortuna, Bernie Olivarez-Ilas and Sofia Chabon.

Also in the fold are 13-year-old Pradera standout Annyka Cayabyab, Nicole Abelar, Laura Duque, Tomi Arejola and Kayla Nocum.

“With souped-up squads, we expect a solid showing from both sides, guaranteeing a thrilling battle in all three days among the best young players in the region,” said Archen Cayabyab, who hatched up the event with Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab and swing coach Norman Sto. Domingo.
