“Terrence is not with us so we really needed to go hard,” Grey admitted in Fiilipino as his playing time increased under returning head coach Pido Jarencio and formed a decent supporting role with lead guard Stanley Pringle.

Grey, however, wasn’t satisfied with his performance especially with the Batang Pier dropping a 115-104 decision to NLEX in their Christmas Day clash at Philippine Arena.

“For me, I’m not happy with the way I played,” the 25-year-old swingman said on Monday.

But he’s not letting the defeat rain on GlobalPort’s parade as he maintains a positive view moving forward.

“This is just our first game so I hope we bounce back. Coach Pido is giving us a chance to make up for the mistakes we did, so what happened to us is just a learning process. We have to move on,” he said.

Grey added he feels comfortable with Jarencio’s free-flowing system which he thinks highlights the team’s strengths.

“We’re more fast-paced now, so I think it’s an advantage for me. Maybe, coach also liked my game and that’s the reason why he’s letting me play along with my fellow young players,” he said.

The former College of St. Benilde star knows that after this solid showing, more will be expected of him and it starts against Barangay Ginebra on January 7.

“We need to focus on our next game, which is against Ginebra. So we’ll do our jobs, try our best every game to help the team,” he said.
