Children’s Tennis Workshop, (CTW) whose program helped molded champions Johnny Arcilla and Bien Zoleta, is celebrating its 30th year by launching 50 age-group tournaments in 2018.
Arcilla, many-time national team player and Davis Cup awardee for most ties played, started his career with CTW as an age-grouper from San Beda before his rise as the only eight-time singles champion of the Philippine Columbian Association Open.
Zoleta also honed her skills with the program and eventually became bronze medalist in the World Soft Tennis Championship in 2015 and Asian Championship in 2016.
“We believe in the talent of the Filipino youth,” said CTW founder Jovy Mamawal, who is also head coach for San Beda. “There are more untapped potential out there and our mission is to discover them and train them to become world class.”
CTW will churn out tournaments across the country for junior netters to help the Philippine Tennis Association with its grassroots program.
Mamawal said some 400,000 players have taken part in CTW training and tournaments over the year.
