Filipino mixed martial artist Carls John de Tomas may face repercussions after a potential anti-doping violation, according to the U.S Anti-Doping Agency.
UFC, in a statement released Saturday, said that the USADA also informed them of de Tomas’ likely offense stemming from an in-competition sample collected following his weigh-in on Dec. 8 for his fight against Alex Perez.
De Tomas’ (6-2) fight against Perez was his second and last fight in the UFC and he lost via anaconda choke 1:54 into the second round making him 0-2 in the promotion.
UFC said de Tomas is no longer under contract with them when the results were released.
“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case,” said the statement.
The California State Athletic Commission will also retain jurisdiction over the case as de Tomas’ sample was taken in Fresno for UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Ortega.
De Tomas’ has had a maligned history in the UFC concerning his weight.
As per MMAFighting.com, both de Tomas and Perez were “significantly” above 10 percent of the flyweight limit at 125 lbs and the CSAC promptly moved the fight to the 135-lb bantamweight division.
De Tomas also missed the weight limit by five pounds in his UFC debut in June for UFC Singapore where he lost to Naoki Inoue via unanimous decision.
