Top-seed Marc Andrei Jarata rallied to beat Lance Fernandez, 5-7, 6-2, 10-6, Tuesday in the boys’ 14-under division of the 29th Andrada Cup age-group tennis tournament at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
Jarata, of Agoo, La Union, yielded the first set but rebounded in the second. He won the supertiebreak in the third to advance to the quarterfinals of the premier class.
The boys’ and girls’ 14-under divisions are where the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta), headed by lawyer Antonio Cablitas, will draw candidates for the Junior Davis Cup, Junior Fed Cup and the World Junior Tennis Championships.
Action in the girls’ division gets going Wednesday.
Joining Jarata in the next round are eight-seeded Samuel Rean Nuguit, a 6-1, 6-1 winner over No. 5 Jude Hidalgo, Keno Enriquez and Lukas Yupangco, winners via walkover.
