‘23 for 23:’ No rush for young Kai Sotto
Already seen as one of the cornerstones for the national team in the future, Kai Sotto moved one more step in making those dreams a reality as he was shortlisted in Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes’ “23-for-23” list.
But for the 15-year-old, he has yet to feel the pressure of being part of such an elusive club.
“I still don’t feel any pressure. It’s still five years away and I still have time to work for it,” he said.
Sotto is no stranger to donning the national team colors, suiting up for the Batang Gilas crew which saw action in the 2017 SEABA Under-16 Championship.
“I’m thankful to be a part of the pool. It’s one of my goals and it surprised me a bit that I was a part of that,” he said.
Being listed is one thing, making the team, however, is another, and Sotto knows that he has his work cut out for him to be a part of that Philippine which will compete in the 2023 Fiba World Cup at home.
“I will really work hard for that spot,” he said.
For now though, he still have some important things to take care of before joining the Gilas Pilipinas training sessions.
“We still have classes,” he said.
