Making history in 2017, the Philippine women’s football team is far from done.
Eyeing an even more fruitful showing this year, the Filipinos have their sights set on bigger goals as they seek to compete and, hopefully, beat tougher foes.
For the first time in 15 years, the Philippines will compete in the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup this April.
Slotted in Group A, the Filipinos have their work cut out for them against host Jordan, and former champions China and Thailand in their bid to qualify for the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup in France.
Also looking to continue their ascent are their youth counterparts as the women’s under-15 squad is hoping to build on its strong performances in 2017.
The young Filipinos settled for the silver medal in the 2017 AFF Under-15 Women’s Championship after losing to Thailand.
They also finished second in Group B of the qualifiers, barely missing out on the lone ticket to the 2017 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship.
But if there’s any indication of their awe-inspiring showing, the best is yet to come for Philippine women’s football.
