Lady Eagles notch first FCBL triumph

MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo edged UAAP champion Far Eastern U, 55-52, while Adamson posted its fourth straight win in the FCBL Dickies Cup at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City over the weekend.

The Lady Eagles trailed by eight points in the first half before finally catching fire in the payoff period where they outscored the Lady Tamaraws, 20-13.

Susan Mercaco scored all her 12 points in the fourth while Sam Ong chipped in 11 markers—nine of them from the three-point area—as Ateneo notched its first win in the tournament backed by Powerhouse, Smart, Mang Inasal and Home Depot.

Adamson crushed University of the East, 69-58, to grab the solo lead through the all-around performance of Jezza Tajora who had 20 points, 14 boards and three assists.

Ong and Tajora emerged Dickies Underwear Player of the Game.

In other matches, Centro Escolar U streaked to its third straight win by downing University of Santo Tomas, 82-74, to tie La Salle at 3-1.

The Lady Archers, getting another superb game from Hannah Viterbo, handed Lyceum its third defeat via a 65-50 decision.
