Arellano University has its sight set on an outright finals berth in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament.
Head coach Obet Javier said the Lady Chiefs are aiming to sweep the elimination round and after beating Jose Rizal University on Tuesday, they’re halfway from their goal.
“We’re targeting a sweep because it’s really a big advantage when you’re already waiting in the finals,” Javier told reporters in Filipino after a 25-11, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16 win.
The defending champions are currently at 4-0 with only five games left in the single-round elimination.
Last season, Arellano went 8-1 heading into the playoffs where they took down San Sebastian, which had a thrice-to-beat advantage in the championship round after completing a 9-0 sweep.
Javier, however, doesn’t want the Lady Chiefs to get too far ahead of themselves with a game against Lyceum next.
Arellano also got quite a challenge from JRU, which dealt the Lady Chiefs their first set loss of the season.
“We really can’t take other teams for granted. All of the teams improved.”
