Hotshooting GlobalPort routs Blackwater for 2nd straight win

Just a week removed from its first win, GlobalPort continued to show it’s more than just a one trick pony after humbling Blackwater, 101-76, for its second straight win Friday in the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup at Cuneta Astrodome.

The Batang Pier blew the game wide open with a big second quarter surge then led by as as high 31 points numerous times in the fourth frame and never let the Elite come within 20 points.

After Globalport nailed 11 of 17 attempts from three in the first half, it was it easy for the boys of coach Pido Jarencio to come away with their second straight victory and level their record at 2-2.

Sean Anthony shot 6-of-10 from downtown en route to a 22-point performance, all but one coming in the first half, that went  with seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Stanley Pringle also added 17 markers, 11 boards, and five dimes, while Kelly Nabong got 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists for Batang Pier, who shot a 13-of-29 from three in total.

More than the stellar offensive outburst, Jarencio celebrated the way the team has been playing defense as GlobalPort once again held the opposition below 80 points.

“We hit our target, which is to hold them to 80 points below. That’s always been our target,” he said. “We just told the players that they have to play good defense all the way and this is the result of that.”

Mac Belo carried the load for Blackwater with 17 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, but his efforts went down the drain as the Elite succumbed to their second straight defeat and fell to a 2-3 record.
