Arellano University stayed perfect in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament after a masterful win over Lyceum, 25-16, 25-17, 25-11, Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Chiefs improved to a league-leading record of 5-0, with second seed San Beda at 4-0, and head coach Obet Javier was very much pleased with how his team followed the game plan.
“I told them that if they can finish the game quickly while not acting too rash then do it, if they can build a lead and run away with it then do it,” said Javier in Filipino. “Our best set was the third because they did what I told them to do.”
Arellano was well ahead late in the third set, 19-7, before the Lady Pirates scored on a couple of lucky breaks that cut the lead to 19-9.
The Lady Chiefs then, scored five straight points before substitute Glydel Liu, who only played in the third set, finished the match with a well-placed kill.
Arellano had four players in double-digit scoring with Necole Ebuen putting up 11 points while Mary Esguerra, Andrea Marzan, and Regine Arocha each having 10 points.
Romanban and Monica Sevilla had eight points apiece to lead the Lady Pirates (1-4).
