NLEX coach Yeng Guiao and San Miguel guard Chris Ross were penalized for their verbal altercation in the fourth quarter of the Beermen’s 109-98 win over the Road Warriors on Friday.
PBA officer-in-charge Willie Marcial released the sanctions on Monday after meeting with the two parties over the weekend.
Guiao has been meted with a P11,000 fine for his obscene gesture, use of profane language, and engaging in verbal exchange, while Ross was penalized P2,600 for incurring two technical fouls, both for verbal altercation in the game.
Tensions got heated at the 1:46 mark of the fourth quarter when Guiao and Ross got into a commotion.
Ross claimed Guiao hurled a racial slur at him, which was later denied by the fiery mentor.

Upon further review, the PBA found no sufficient evidence of Ross’ allegation, but Marcial clarified that such remarks will not be tolerated.

“Let me reiterate that racism has no place in the PBA. It is totally unacceptable in our society and in sports in general. The PBA will not hesitate to act if the evidence so warrants,” he said in a release.
“The PBA, its players and its officials are called upon to uphold the highest standard of respect that our youth can look upon as an example. Rest assured that any act that is racially derogatory and pejorative in nature will be dealt with sternly by the league.”
