NCAA volleyball: JRU halts two-game skid, blasts Benilde

Jose Rizal University went back to the winning track after stopping College of St. Benilde in straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, in the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Bombers improved to 3-3 and tied the Lady Blazers at the fifth spot after starting off the season on a 2-1 run.

Shola Alvarez paced JRU’s offense with 21 points while Dolly Verzosa added 16.

JRU head coach Mia Tioseco said lack of mental and emotional strength was key to their doom against Arellano and University of Perpetual Help.

“I think we lacked the confidence and the composure,” said Tioseco in Filipino. “They already have the skills and they just have to use it in the game, but when we lost our composure and fear takes over they forget about their skills.”

“It’s already in them, they just have to use it properly.”

Ranya Musa led Benilde with 12 points while Rachel Austero added 10 as the Lady Blazers lost three of their last four games.
