NCAA Mancom to fast-track brawl probe

MANILA, Philippines—The NCAA Management Committee yesterday vowed to fast-track its investigation on the brawl that marred an NCAA women’s volleyball match last week involving the coach of San Sebastian and members of the San Beda basketball team at the San Beda Gym.

In a statement released by its chairman Ramon Cercado of host Perpetual Help, the ManCom vowed fairness and justice as it plans to finish the investigation within the next two weeks.

The melee left San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb with a lump on his left cheek and bruises all over his body and also injured San Sebastian women’s player Mae Crisostomo, who was reportedly hit by a wayward elbow by a San Beda player.

Cercado appealed for sobriety even as another bench-clearing incident involving San Sebastian and San Beda marred their Philippine Collegiate Champions League semifinals game.

Cercado said they will also investigate the incident in the PCCL, which will be based on the report made by league commissioner Joe Lipa.

“We are saddened by this development,” said Cercado. “We had problems in the past and we survived this one.”
