Filipino fighter Drian Francisco failed to upset hometown bet Edivaldo Ortega on Monday (Manila time) at Municipal Auditorium in Tijuana, Mexico.

The 35-year-old Francisco, a former WBA super flyweight champion, lost by unanimous decision, 96-94, 98-92, 98-92.

Raring to fire a knockout blow, Francisco came out aggressive but wasn’t able to land definitive punches as Ortega (26-1-1, 12 KOs) controlled the match and imposed his dominance majority of the fight.

The Mindoro-born Francisco (29-5-1, 22 knockouts) couldn’t follow up his win over compatriot Mateo Handig in February last year.
